Breast Implant Removal

The Broadway Center for Plastic Surgery is world renowned for its breast enhancement expertise.  What many patients might not know is that Dr. Broadway also specializes in the removal of breast implants through a procedure known as explantation.

Recently, a growing number of women who have had their implants for a long period of time (10 – 20 years in most cases) have requested to have their implants removed.  Whether it be to remove damaged implants, or the patient simply no longer wishes to have implants, Dr. Broadway and his staff are more than happy to safely remove the implants for them right here at the Renewal Surgery Center.

During the explantation procedure, the patient is put under LOCAL anesthesia, or a LOCAL anesthetic with an IV sedation (depending on the patient).  Then, much like traditional breast implant surgery, Dr. Broadway makes a small incision either under the breast or around the areola.  The implant is then carefully removed through this incision.  If it is a saline implant, Dr. Broadway may drain the implant before removal to make it less stressful on the patient’s body.

The patient may experience a little swelling and bruising in breasts, but this usually passes within a few days.  Recovery time is generally very quick, with many patients returning to their normal activities in 3-4 days.
