Dr. David Broadway, M.D., F.A.C.S. Quadruple Board Certified Surgeon
Varicose Veins
Denver, Colorado
Varicose veins are an unsightly and often painful consequence of aging. While extended periods of inactivity and pregnancy can be factors in causing varicose veins, for many people, they are simply a natural part of the aging process.
Any vein in the body may become varicose, but the condition is most common in feet and legs and is caused by pressure in the veins being increased when you stand or walk. For this reason, the onset of varicose veins may be accelerated in people who are required to stand on hard floors at work.
Treating Varicose Veins
At the Broadway Center for Plastic Surgery, we offer several options for the treatment of varicose veins. Options for treatment include:
- Injecting the veins with a solution that causes the varicose vain to scar and close, thus reducing its size
- Laser treatments that can close off smaller varicose and spider veins causing them to fade away
- Removing unnecessary veins through tiny incisions, thereby eliminating the vein entirely
- Creating tiny skin punctures to remove smaller varicose veins
Depending on the severity of your varicose veins, quadruple board certified Denver cosmetic surgeon, Dr. David Broadway will work closely with you to ensure the correct procedure is utilized to produce the most appealing results.
Avoiding Varicose Veins After Treatment
After your treatment, simple at-home steps can be taken to reduce your risk of developing varicose veins again:
- Take walks daily
- Follow a low-salt, high-fiber diet
- Be sure to move around for a few minutes after every 30 minutes spent sitting or standing
- Try to avoid wearing high heels and garments of clothing that restrict circulation to your legs
Because they are a natural result of aging, varicose veins may not be able to be completely avoided, but by taking simple steps in your daily routine, you can help ensure that they appear less frequently, and with much less severity.
If you live in or around Denver, Colorado and you are suffering from the unpleasant appearance or pain associated with varicose veins, please contact the Broadway Center for Plastic Surgery to discuss you problem and to schedule an initial consultation.
