VASER Lipo Questions
Denver and Cherry Creek North, Colorado
What is VASER Lipo?
VASER Lipo is the innovative way to remove fat and sculpt your body. Using ultrasound technology, VASER Lipo precisely removes targeted areas of fat without disrupting connective tissue, nerves or blood vessels.
How is VASER Lipo different from traditional liposuction?
In liposuction procedures, small incisions are created to remove excess fat. In traditional liposuction, an instrument called a cannula is inserted into the incision and passed back and forth to break up fat cells, which are then suctioned out. The movement of the cannula causes trauma to surrounding blood vessels and tissue, causing bleeding under the skin and post-operative pain.
In VASER Lipo, a probe is inserted into the incision that emits ultrasonic energy to heat up and liquefy fat cells, which are then easily removed with a suctioning instrument. VASER minimizes trauma to connective tissues and nerves because the fat is selectively targeted and liquefied before removal. Bruising is also reduced in VASER because blood vessels are constricted by tumescent fluid.
What happens during a VASER Lipo procedure?
VASER is a tumescent and ultrasound-assisted technique. Tumescent fluid is injected into the treatment site to numb and expand the area. Tumescent fluid constricts blood vessels, causing less bruising after surgery, and it expands the area so that there is less damage to surrounding tissue.
Next, a very fine probe is inserted into the body. The probe emits ultrasonic energy, which heats up and liquefies fat cells. The fat cells are then easily suctioned out along with the tumescent fluid.
Am I a candidate for VASER Lipo?
During a consultation with Dr. Broadway, he will determine which body contouring procedure will be the best option for you. Good candidates for VASER Lipo are individuals with an active lifestyle who exercise regularly, but cannot seem to lose the fat in certain areas. VASER Lipo is a sculpting procedure that can remove problematic areas and reveal the smooth contours of your body.
It is important to note that VASER Lipo is not a weight loss solution; you can gain the weight back after surgery. This procedure is intended to remove areas of fat in a person who is otherwise fit and healthy.
What are the risks associated with the procedure?
VASER is a minimally invasive procedure that is FDA-approved and causes little or no trauma to connective tissue, nerves and blood vessels. As is the case with any surgical procedure, VASER does have associated risks; however, VASER technology greatly reduces risks compared to traditional liposuction.
The most common risks include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Post-operative discomfort
More serious risks can be caused by an inexperienced surgeon. Too much tumescent fluid can harm your lungs, and burns can result if the ultrasound probe is used incorrectly. Choosing a well qualified and experienced plastic surgeon greatly decreases these risks.
What areas of the body can be improved?
Surgeons have used VASER Lipo to effectively improve the appearance of many physical features, including:
- Abdomen
- Face
- Back
- Arms
- Love handles
- Hips
- Male and female breasts
- Calves
- Ankles
- Buttocks
- Knees
- Thighs
How long will the results last?
VASER Lipo permanently removes the selected fat from your body, but you can gain weight back after surgery, although the weight may be in a different area. To maintain results, you must continue to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
How much does VASER Lipo cost?
As with all plastic surgeries, the cost of VASER Lipo is variable. Cost will be influenced by the specific area being treated and the extent of treatment. Dr. Broadway offers financing options, so everyone can have the body they have always wanted.
